The 2023 Clinton Global Initiative brought some inspiring leaders together in New York this week. Among the political leaders and celebrity philanthropists, newly-inducted Hall-of-Famer, Dwyane Wade sat on the panel. Pushing people to take action was the aim of this convention. The father of four used this platform to talk about a cause close to his and his family’s heart, inspired by his daughter, Zaya Wade.

D-Wade is Zaya’s first and best champion. The hype-dad is always front and center cheering her on. Using his growing influence as an LGBTQ+ ally, he expressed his wish to do more for youth like Zaya.

Dwyane Wade’s daughter inspires his initiative

The Miami Heat legend joined esteemed personalities like World Bank president, Aja Banga, The Bahamas PM Philip E. Davis, and Hollywood A-listers, Matt Damon and Ashley Judd at the 2023 Clinton Global Initiative on September 18 and 19. The NBA star was the voice for the LGBTQ+ community and their families at the convention.

He shared a glimpse of his talk at the event on his Instagram Stories. His teen daughter, Zaya, was the focus of his discussion. “As a father of a beautiful daughter in the queer community, this is an important conversation,” Wade said.

He further says, “Taking action together is the initiative and a model. And that’s what we should do, continue to take action together.” “Love wins,” was Wade’s message to the community. Heartwarmingly, his purpose is inspired by Zaya.

Zaya’s family, including stepmom Gabrielle Union, and her siblings, have been her vocal supporters since she came out as trans in 2020. The Union-Wade fam have since become inspirations for other LGBTQ+ youth and their families.

The Flash was at the Clinton Global Initiative tirelessly working on advancing LGBTQ+ rights with other activists.

Zaya names D-Wade as her inspiration

At only 16 years old, Zaya Wade is building her own fame. She’s thriving in fashion, securing her first modeling break with Miu Miu. It was D-Wade sitting front row and being the proud dad at her events that won over social media.

Zaya’s also a trans rights activist herself. Interestingly, she said it was her three-time champion dad who inspires her.

Her aspirations are to make LGBTQ+ people of all ages feel seen and accepted. The Wades are defining role models for the community. It shone at the CGI where Dwyane Wade made sure those like his daughter were seen and heard too.
