“We are still the best of friends, great business partners and are one hell of a team when it comes to co-parenting our 2 beautiful children.” This was once Teyana Taylor’s stance after divorcing the NBA star Iman Shumpert. At first, it felt like everything would be cordial between the two, as they were focused on raising their children. But now, a couple of leaked motions against each other have started painting a different picture.
Taylor and Shumpert met in 2011, and the former couple tied the knot in 2016. Their presence was such a hit that they launched their VH1 reality series ‘Teyana and Iman’. But in 2023, it all came crashing down. Despite the actress’s best efforts to keep the details of the split private, their divorce settlement reports started flooding the internet. Even now, their motions against each other are becoming public, and it was the reason in the first place that the mother of two filed her first motion against the former NBA champion.
Iman Shumpert responded with a motion of his own, and now Taylor’s response to his petition has been revealed. On May 14, Teyana responded to Iman’s petition for contempt. In her filing, obtained by In Touch, the entertainer denied all allegations of wrongdoing. The 34-year-old even rejected the idea of her trying to “willfully and contemptuously expose and broadcast specific provisions of” their divorce judgment.

According to latest reports, she even denied “related provisions, recklessly disregarding the financial circumstances, privacy, safety and security of the parties and their minor children.” But that was not all.

One of the important points in the former Cavs star’s motion was him being insulted in front of his kids. Taylor denied the allegations that she insulted Iman in front of their children. Then she asked the court to dismiss Iman’s petition and not find her in contempt of court. This is the latest update in a series of motions being filed by the two parties.
Previous back-and-forth motion filing from Iman Shumpert and Teyana Taylor
As stated previously, the former NBA star did file a motion and asked the court to fine Teyana $1,000 and/or imprisonment for up to 20 days, alleging that she “shouted crude and inflammatory racial insults”. But Shumpert’s accusations came days after Taylor accused him of being in contempt of court. Yes, it’s that messy between the two.

Do public legal battles like Teyana and Iman's help or harm their children's well-being?
Have an interesting take?
In her first filing, Taylor firmly believed that Iman Shumpert had leaked sealed court documents related to their divorce. The entertainer asked for her ex-husband to be jailed for up to 20 days. However, there is another twist. After the news broke of Teyana’s motion for contempt, the singer took to Instagram to deny she wanted Iman in jail. “I never tried to send Iman to jail. I’m still not trying to send Iman to jail.”
Their divorce settlement was also equally messy, where Taylor received four properties reportedly worth $10 million, while the former NBA player was given three properties. Shumpert requested that the child support payments be reduced, citing that Teyana ($94,000 a month) makes twice as much as him ($48,000 a month), as per Daily Mail. The reports also suggest that the former NBA star will pay $8,000 a month for their daughters, Junie and Rue Rose. What started as a private settlement is now being played out in front of the world, and it’s seemingly taking an unfortunate turn.
