Nikola Jokic recently talked about the ugly side of fame, at least for him. The Joker doesn’t like it when people approach him when he is out in a public place. Now, this can be termed as his personal take, which is completely valid, but waving off fans when they’re the ones who make this sport a thrilling experience and a lucrative business might be a little unfair.

NBA veteran Robert Horry believes that if Jokic is not fond of being admired by fans, he should quit basketball and do something else. Discussing Jokic’s recent comments, he said that it is all part of the job and not something an athlete should frown upon.

Jokic recently said that he wishes to be unknown after all the attention that is showered on him. He said that people coming up to him or taking his pictures are “rude” and he wants to be unbothered once he hangs up his boots. Jokic believes that “We’re just basketball players,” and deserve to have a normal life. But for fans, especially those who have grown up supporting a particular team, meeting one of the athletes can be once in a lifetime moment.

While both sides of the argument are true in their own right, Horry has a slightly different take and a brutal answer for Jokic. He said, “You knew the job was dangerous when you took it. If you didn’t want to be known, don’t take this job. It comes with the territory and for me… almost every athlete wants to go to dinner one time with his family and not have that picture [taken].” The 7x NBA champion said that he understands where Jokic is coming from and is referring to those awkward moments of celebrities, who are just trying to live their lives, that are often featured in the media.

However, he has an additional piece of advice for the Denver Nuggets superstar, something that he might be able to put to the test. He said, “At the end of the day, you got enough money. You wanna go to dinner, get a chef. Go through the back door. You own Denver Jokic. You can call the restaurant and say I wanna be in a private room where nobody bothers me. Just me and my friends.”

This was just one of the examples that Horry thinks Jokic can use to his benefit. Because as much as he wishes and deserves to live a peaceful life, he’s the biggest star for the Nuggets and he will always have those fans, wanting to get a moment with him.
