While the Mavericks are mostly recognized by two superstars, Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving, Centre Dereck Lively II is surely taking the limelight away. In a recent Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals, Lively shocked everyone by accumulating 14 points. Not only this, but he captivated the audience with his 6 of 6 shooting, 2 assists, and nine rebounds. As Kendrick Perkins came across his impressive game, he was inspired to pen down a heartfelt note to appreciate him for his small success.

After the matchup, he took to his official X account and penned, “The Mavs have done a great job of developing him and getting ready for these moments. It’s safe to say that they have CULTURE. Carry on…” Meanwhile, he also added, “Gotta show love to the Rookie Dereck Lively who’s been outplaying both KAT and Gobert on both ends of the floor,” throwing the gauntlet at both Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns. Interestingly, Kendrick Perkins found this opportunity apt for adding his insights on Rudy and KAT’s controversy. But, what is this controversy all about?

When the Minnesota Timberwolves traded five players and five draft picks in exchange for three-time Defensive Player of the Year, Rudy Gobert, they ended up in fervent debates. While many called it the worst trade, some even criticized it, citing the expensive cost the team had to pay. Not only this, but viewers also questioned the postseason resumes of both Gobert and KAT. However, there are some stats to support Kendrick’s words.

Though Dereck Lively II’s stats are lower than those of Gobert and KAT, it is still pretty decent. And that’s why Perkins said, “Mavs have done a great job of developing him.

Still, the NBA star has a long way to go to equal the impressive stats of Gobert and KAT. Now, the question is: Will Dereck Lively be able to cross this mark set by Kendrick Perkins, or will Gobert and KAT respond to Perkins’ tweet? Stay tuned to find out!
