The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame selected 10-time All-Star Carmelo Anthony for its 2025 class. Yes! Without any NBA Title, Carmelo has gone places in his career. Fans and analysts regard him as one of the most prolific scorers in league history. Carmelo recently sat down for a chit-chat in his show 7 PM in Brooklyn, where he looked back on his time playing ball.

When asked about which version of Carmelo he liked the most, he said, “ 2K Melo in a sense because that’s really what kept me connected to generation,” referring to the 2K game by Take-Two Interactive. He also said, “Once you are stamped in 2K universe or Live universe, at that point of time, you’re stamped for life,” referring to the game almost immortalizing him in gaming.

Carmelo Anthony felt the 2K game helped him connect to the younger fans more than ever. According to Carmelo, “You have that core group of people who will always rock with you(Carmelo) because they love to play with you on 2K on the video game”. Carmelo was added to the 2K lineup in the early days of the Denver Nuggets. Since then, he has always been a staple in each version of the game, right up to his final season. Carmelo Anthony expressed that it’s not only his 2K self that defines him but also Melo from the Portland Trail Blazers. Yes, you heard it right! It was his time in Portland that he called his “favorite self”. Surprised?

In the interview, Carmelo Anthony told the viewers, “I was super refined in Portland like I was super sharp, I was like super refined…like coming at me super clear, I had so much clarity”. He expressed how his time in Portland was full of clarity. He was at the peak of his physicality, and life was coming at him like a divine matter.

Coming towards the end of his career in Portland, he felt like it was a test and adapted each time. Carmelo recalled the time when he used to tighten up his skills and head to the game committed each time. The 2K players took that in, and his character became a go-to for gamers over the years who loved his mid-range games. It’s just been a few days since the NBA confirmed the Hall of Fame class of 2025. This was Carmelo’s first podcast after the news of his induction broke out. Viewers were able to get his reaction firsthand. Melo recalled it was a call from the head of the Hall of Fame from Springfield that broke the news to him. “I just… basically what I want to tell you is – You’re in,” Carmelo Anthony said when asked what happened in the call. Carmelo was pumped up after listening to the news, he said: “I said to myself- this is it, That’s the call”. 

The 10-time All-Star put his moment into perspective and expressed his view. Despite never winning an NBA Championship, his 19-year-long career in the NBA is a tremendous achievement. Melo expressed that his career has been like a video game to him, with different levels of basketball. From winning gold at the Olympics and winning in high school and college to his years in the NBA, he has done it all. With all the good news on his way, Carmelo stayed connected to his roots and stood humble!

Looking back at his career, Carmelo Anthony said he never thought of becoming a Hall of Famer. He said that as a player, he looked at the achievable assets and not directly at the top. According to Carmelo Anthony, with each passing target, he used to up his bar.  It was only at his last Olympics in Rio 2016 that he realized he had the resume to go for it. And just like that, the impact was made!
