The Clippers have recently won their fourth NBA game this season after going through a series of losses. They are currently struggling to perform well and are ranked 11th in the Western Conference. One important reason for their poor performance in the new season is that they don’t have a strong bench with the right mindset of being ‘role players’.

After having retired recently from the NBA, an ex-Clipper star recounts the impact he has had on the game. During his time with the Clippers, he played his ‘role’ to perfection and achieved some great milestones coming off the bench.

Paul George then lists Lou Williams’s basketball achievements. PG says, “You averaged 37 points per game in your golden year in high school. Most points off-the-bench in NBA history. Most 40-point games off-the-bench in NBA history. Most 30-point games off-the-bench in NBA history. Most assists in NBA history off-the-bench.

Lou Williams then smiles as he responds, “I did quite a bit on the bench didn’t I?” Paul George immediately agrees as he hopes to see Lou Williams be inducted into the Hall of Fame on the first ballot.

In the same podcast episode, Lou Williams then argues his case for being in the NBA Hall of Fame. He states, “The first person to ever get the ‘Sixth Man of the Year’ award is in the Hall of Fame.” Lou Williams won 3 NBA ‘Sixth Man of the Year’ awards which is the highest in NBA history. The only other person who has 3 NBA ‘Sixth Man of the Year’ awards is former NBA player, Jamal Crawford. Lou Williams claims he has done enough to be in the NBA Hall of Fame because he believes he has made his unique impact on the game, something that nobody else has done.

Lou Williams then says, “I feel like I have especially done that. I feel like Jamal has done that. He is eligible two years before I am, he’s eligible next year.

The former Clippers star then explains how what happens with Jamal Crawford will give him an idea about his chances to get into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame. However, Lou Williams stays firm on the fact that he has impacted the game. His journey inspires other NBA athletes to take on the role of the ‘sixth man’ or an off-the-bench player with more seriousness and sincerity.
