Trae Young‘s father recently had a wholesome conversation with his son’s idol. Trae grew up idolizing Jamal Crawford and now plays for the same franchise that his basketball hero also played for. The interaction began with Rayford Young’s post where he talked about his son calling the game with one of his idols.

He posted, “@TheTraeYoung with one of his idols @JCrossover calling the game and one of his dad’s idols @ReggieMillerTNT there too……..AND they’re on @NBAonTNT??? Yea I expected this type of game. @ATLHawks vs @spurs”.

When the post reached Crawford, he used it as an opportunity to give a special shoutout to the 25-year-old Atlanta Hawks star. He replied, “Your son is SPECIAL!! A wizard @rayfordyoung🫡” After getting a word from one of his son’s idols, Rayford was eager to reveal some childhood secrets of Trae.

He said that Trae grew up watching him and has learned so much from him. He wrote, “Appreciate it🙏🏾…….he’s watched a TON of film and games you’ve played while coming up in high school. Trust me, I was the one on the couch with him breaking your game down😂🏀❤️”

When Jamal Crawford called up Trae Young for Pro-AM

Crawford and Young share a good relationship and have talked about one another on several occasions. In January 2023, Crawford invited Trae Young, LeBron James, and several other NBA stars to Pro-AM. Sharing his experience later, he said, “That’s a fun atmosphere. It was my first time going to Seattle, Jamal [Crawford] has been trying to get me to go out there the last few summer and I told him I was going to, but the schedule hasn’t worked.”

Crawford sees an elite athlete in Young who has no ceiling. While talking about the youngster in 2022, he said, “His mentality, his elusiveness, his shiftiness, and his fearlessness. I see those attributes for sure. He has no ceiling.” As someone who had a career spanning two decades in the NBA, Crawford believes that Young is on the right path and doing all the right things.

He said, “He figured out how to do it where he was two games away from the Finals. He figured it out, so for him, to figure it out this early in your career.” It must be a surreal feeling for Young to have his idol praise him like this. The best part is, he has earned it all by himself.
