Will Adam Silver be able to save the NBA All-Star this year? Not until this one condition mentioned by Udonis Haslem isn’t fulfilled! Many such have openly discussed their stance regarding the new NBA All-Star format. Kevin Durant was quite vocal about his dislike. However, there was a desperate need for the tournament to get a refreshing take, and it did. But Haslem believes the prime issue still isn’t resolved. What is it?

The NBA All-Star 2024 received very poor reviews, and the players don’t deny the claims. NBA Commissioner Silver too addressed the disappointment and added that the format change was meant to enhance the competition level in the game and make it more exciting.

As Haslem believes, the actual issue is players lacking motivation to play hard in the games. “If the motherf****r go for blood the last eight minutes then the fans got their money worth,” the Miami Heat said about the competition.

The display of poor defense also came into the forefront of discussion in the games. Haslem noted that this is the problem that players aren’t putting in their full effort. So, he further challenged the notion of how tweaking the rules would fix it. Miller had the same opinion, saying it would be tough to turn a non-competitive game into a serious contest.

He added, “I mean but nobody wants to get hurt respectfully I understand it. I get it. How changing the format is going to make them play hard? If they’re not going to play hard they’re not going to play hard.” Haslem added. Mike Miller also agreed and said that the fans should rather consider it a showcase and celebration of talent rather than competition.

Well, Haslem isn’t the first to point out issues with the NBA All-Star. Many claimed three-pointers to be the reason as well. Even LeBron James seems to have the same opinion.

LeBron James responded to questions regarding 2025 NBA All-Star

Silver has constantly argued that the three-pointer isn’t the issue, but his efforts have been in vain. More and more criticism continued to mount amidst the drop in TV viewership ratings. And James had the same doubt. Thanks to the Warriors and Stephen Curry, three-pointers have been making an enormous splash in the last few years, and it didn’t escape James’ notice.

But listen, it’s a bigger conversation. It’s not just the All-Star Game, it’s our game in general. Our game, there’s a lot of f*****g 3s being shot. So it’s a bigger conversation than just the All-Star Game,” James said at a press conference.

As said before, Durant wasn’t pleased with the change at all. “Absolutely hate it. Terrible. All the formats-terrible, in my opinion. We should just go back to East-West. Just play a game,” Durant said. While he didn’t criticize the NBA All-Star directly, it seems James also believes other reasons need more attention.
