Their once‑idyllic romance has spun into a very public legal nightmare. Teyana Taylor quietly filed for divorce in January 2023, citing “cruel treatment.” But it wasn’t all quiet. Media outlets then discovered documents alleging Shumpert’s jealousy over Taylor’s career. The duo split as the divorce was finalized, with a lot of financials involved. Despite that, the issue seems to have grown as jail time looms over the actress.
On April 15, In Touch published Shumpert’s contempt motion claiming Taylor breached their July 2024 settlement. That settlement detailed joint custody, child support, and division of four properties. Shumpert says the judge’s gag order bars both from discussing case details publicly.
In his motion, he explained that on March 12, Teyana “willfully and contemptuously exposed and broadcast specific provisions of the final judgment decree of divorce and related provisions, recklessly disregarding the financial circumstances, privacy, safety, and security of the parties and their minor children.” Another reason reported was “He also accused Teyana of taking their kids out of school for no reason, willfully obstructing and interfering with his right to pick up the children on April 17.”

Speaking about children, “Iman also accused Teyana of denigrating and speaking ill of him in front of their kids.” He’s seeking 20 days behind bars—ironically just weeks after Taylor and her lawyers unsuccessfully petitioned to incarcerate Shumpert.
In March, TMZ published leaked decrees prompting critics to blame Taylor, though her team says Shumpert orchestrated the leaks to promote his new single. As per the reports, her legal team claimed that Shumpert was allegedly using their divorce to his advantage and demanded 20 days in prison, along with fines. Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert’s marriage led to a $10 million messy divorce

It did not take them long to get married. In a secret getaway fashion, the former couple tied the knot in 2016. The success continued for the couple as they launched their VH1 reality series Teyana and Iman.

But in 2023, it came crashing down. Ever since then, there have been several rumors regarding their divorce settlements, despite the actress’ efforts to keep the details private. The reports claimed that Taylor received four properties, reportedly worth $10 million. Apart from this, Iman Shumpert reportedly will pay $8,000 a month for their daughters, Junie and Rue Rose, in child support. Even that arrangement was not straightforward.

Should Teyana Taylor face jail time for breaching divorce terms, or is this just a messy split?
Have an interesting take?
In April, Shumpert petitioned to halve his support to $4,000/month, citing a $48,000 monthly income versus Taylor’s $94,000. Previously, after the divorce, they aimed to amicably co-parent their kids, but their current issues keep getting played out in public.
As both camps prepare for custody hearings, their next moves—in court filings and Instagram posts—will reveal whether this chapter ends in reconciliation or courtroom conflict.
