Names such as Michael Jordan are common when listing Top 5 defenders. Even while different names pop up on the list, it’s hard to expect anything surprising. However, ‘Iman Amongst Men,’ new guest Dalen Terry’s list suggested some different as well as unexpected names, leaving the host Iman Shumpert confused. The Chicago Bulls player Terry named Metta World Peace, Dennis Rodman, and Gary Payton.

The next two names were a bit unexpected for the host. Terry named Shaquille O’Neal and 3X NBA block leader Dikembe Mutombo. “Ron Artest. Dennis Rodman Gary Peyton. Shaquille O’Neal. Nobody ever say that, Dikenmbe Mutombo,” Terry said on the podcast. While Shumpert agreed with Terry, he admitted that he wasn’t expecting this answer. I ain’t gonna lie that that’s no and I’m a low-key Mutombo is usually. Yeah I like the Mutombo. But he’s usually an either or. It’s usually Mutombo or (someone else),” Shumpert said. The two agreed on Alex Caruso.

Mutombo never won a championship, but he had bagged 4 NBA Defensive Player of the Year honors. The legend was selected for 3X NBA All-Defensive first team. Mutombo amassed most of the accolades during his time in the Denver Nuggets and Atlanta Hawks.

Moreover, he also has a record for the second-most shots blocked in his NBA career with 3289. While the mention could be unexpected for Shumpert, Mutombo was undeniably brilliant and had an incredible physicality and basketball IQ.

More about the three NBA players named by Dalen Terry

Ron Artest boasts NBA titles in his resume. He may have lost his opportunity to win the championship to the Detroit Pistons in 2004, but MWP won the DPOY that year. He was also picked by the All-Defensive teams twice. Finally, during his appearance at the 2010 Finals, he played a key role in Game 7 against the Boston Celtics and ultimately won the championship. He was an interesting perimeter defender, like Gary Payton.

The 6’4 point guard’s defensive prowess was in his quick hands. Apart from Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan, Payton was one of the best perimeter defenders. And then, of course, the Chicago Bulls legend Rodman was important and one of a kind.

Rodman’s role in the Chicago Bulls tells us how his skills turned a team into a championship contender. Without Rodman, it wouldn’t have been possible for the Chicago Bulls to three-peat. Even if a bit unexpected, the 21-year-old brought together quite a power-packed list.
