The Detroit Pistons had the most epic response to Shaquille O’Neal’s claim. After much struggle, the Pistons have finally found their pace. The team has made it to the No. 4 spot in the Eastern Conference alongside the Indiana Pacers and Milwaukee Bucks. They’re doing great, right? However, the team hasn’t been able to convince the NBA legend of their impressive strides yet. But the Pistons were quick to remind O’Neal, as well as the fans, that it’s always wrong to underestimate them.

Be it back in the ’90s or their surprising win in 2004, the Pistons have shown what they are capable of. But O’Neal wasn’t impressed. On Tuesday’s segment of NBA on TNT’s post-game show, he even said that he is not watching the Pistons play because they are boring. This quickly took social media by storm, with many fans coming to the Pistons’ defense.

And the Pistons’ social media team didn’t take the high road. Instead, they chose to clap back in style. Resharing a post from Legend of Winning, the Pistons’ official page highlighted what happens when someone underestimates them. Yes, they referenced their 2004 win over the Lakers. “Nothing new here,” they captioned the post.

After all, this time, the Pistons have been improving. Despite a slow start, the team has secured a spot in the 2025 NBA Playoffs without the NBA Play-In Tournament. Back in The Big Podcast, he said, “You want to brag about a team that’s 32-26? Stop it. That’s not success. 40-20. We talked about it. Bro, Detroit Pistons ain’t winning no —- championship. Stop it.” On NBA on TNT, he even forgot who is coaching the Pistons. Instead of J.B. Bickerstaff Portland Trail Blazers coach Chancey Billups for the Pistons’ latest win.

While O’Neal might still find the 6th-seed Pistons boring, he will have to agree that the team can indeed change the game.

Kobe Bryant spoke about the 2004 defeat

The Lakers were the favorites to win the championship in 2004, but that is not how things went that season. They had won the previous three championship titles before that. Nobody, including the Lakers, expected that they would lose. After all, the dynamic duo of the Los Angeles Lakers legend and Kobe Bryant was unbeatable.

But, stunning the Lakers and the entire NBA world, the Detroit Pistons won the NBA title that year. This remains the most iconic win to this day. Bryant still remembers the day. In one of his interviews (as per Detroit Free Press), Bryant explained that they weren’t ready to face what the Pistons presented on the court.

When we got to Detroit. They forced us to play our offense 94 feet. We weren’t ready, and we couldn’t do it, and everything capitulated from there. That sits with me because we should have won that,” he said. No one has forgotten the five-game sweep that season. Do you think that it is too soon for Shaq to call the Pistons boring?
