Dwyane Wade is confident about exploring new and unknown terrains in the world of fashion. After months of anticipation and teasing from both the sports star and the iconic fashion brand, Wade’s latest campaign images with Versace have finally been released. During an interview with W Magazine, the 3x NBA champion was asked how he felt about dishing out different fashion statements.

The question also included the criticism that is sometimes directed towards Wade. In response, the Miami Heat legend replied, “They’re going to talk about me regardless. If this is what I like, this is what feels good on my body, and this is what helps me perform better, then I should be focused on that. Sometimes people don’t understand or sometimes you’re ahead of the wave. So you have to forgive people for not understanding.”

His response seemed to have addressed all the doubts raised by his critics. Just days earlier, the Flash faced criticism for flaunting colored nails at the Miami Heat vs Charlotte Hornets game. It was the same day the franchise announced the construction of a Dwyane Wade statue at the arena, with their 13x All-Star in attendance.

However, some fans had their focus fixated on his nail fashion rather than his Heat legacy. This led to criticism, with rapper Mase expressing disapproval on his podcast, ‘It Is What It Is.’ He said, “This like [Michael] Jordan in lingerie.”

D-Wade, however, found support from fans defending him on social media. This isn’t the first time, he had to handle a situation like this before. Nearly four years ago, his daughter Zaya faced trolling for a similar reason.

Dwyane Wade clapped back at Zaya’s nail trollers

Back in 2019, Wade’s wife Gabrielle Union shared a beautiful Thanksgiving snap of her family, including her husband, their daughter Kaavia, and Wade’s daughter, Zaya. While the photo garnered admiration, it also became a target for trolls who criticized Zaya for wearing long fake nails.

The comments were quite harsh and judgmental. In response, Wade took a stand against the negativity, defending his daughter with a powerful comment that showcased a new facet of parenting. Taking to his X account, he wrote, “I’ve seen some post-Thanksgiving hate on social about my family photo. Stupidity is a part of this world we live in, so I get it. But here’s the thing, I’ve been chosen to lead my family not y’all. So we will continue to be us and support each other with pride, love & a smile!”
