Joe Smith is married to Kisha Chavis A.K.A. Kiss. Kisha appeared on the Morning Hustle Podcast in which she opened up about her and Smith’s financial difficulties. She said, “You can’t be mad at me for wanting the best for us. You (Smith) have people you could actually reach out to. I have bought a house in Cape Verde. I want to invest in properties out there. There is a whole lot out there that I could hold of if you could just make a phone call. Like you know LeBron, you know Michael Jordan.”

Chavis also stated that her multiple hustles and OnlyFans page result from their poor financial state. She said, “I hustle too hard. He only started working at my moving company because of necessity for him.” Kisha further implied that Smith was depressed. She added, “No, he is not a gold digger. He is just depressed. He is a depressed digger.” It is a sorry state of affairs for a player who had high expectations placed upon him. But that’s the price to pay for negligent financial practices.

A Cautionary Tale

People expected big things out of Smith right from the very moment he stepped foot in the NBA. Drafted by the Warriors in the 1995 NBA draft, Smith came into the league as the reigning Naismith College Player of the Year. Sadly, his time in the NBA didn’t follow the expected trajectory. Smith last played in the NBA in 2011. Post-retirement, Smith took up coaching and was even considered for the Suns’ player development role.

Smith accrued approximately $61 million over his 16-year NBA career. However, accounting for taxes, management fees, and agent fees, Smith only took $18 million. In 2018, while talking to MLB star Alex Rodriguez on his show Back in the Game, the couple revealed their yearly expenses far outweighed their yearly income.
