The Los Angeles Lakers icon has a profound love for his country, which has helped him find happiness in the US Open.

To an added surprise, both US men and women are on par for a chance at the title. Johnson mentioned that as well. With many American stars in the tournament, the hopes are sky-high mainly for Coco Gauff and Ben Shelton.

Magic Johnson’s patriotic tweet ahead of the last phase 

World no.1 Alcaraz and no.2 Novak Djokovic have found their way into the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively. So has 20-year-old Ben Shelton. The youngster did not have a choice but to defeat his Native American star Francis Tiafoe in the quarter-finals. Now, he will face Djokovic for an edge-of-the-seat thriller on September 9. 

On the other hand, Coco Gauff has reached the semi-finals as well. Ranked no.6, a title will help the young star improve in the standings. Similarly, 28-year-old Madison Keys defeated world no.3 Jessica Pegula to advance to the quarters. The men’s and women’s doubles also have potential American stars who can bag the title.

Magic has shown his support with tweets. However, Miami Heat superstar Jimmy Butler continues to attend the game live. Last seen at Coco Gauff’s game, Butler is expected to surprise the 19-year-old again on the day of the semi-finals, September 8.
