My smile has never faded!” D-Wade added to his Instagram story and re-shared the post from CBS. The post had the caption, “Dwyane Wade underwent surgery to remove 40% of his kidney in December, after doctors discovered a tumor and diagnosed him with cancer in 2023. Now, Wade is encouraging men to listen to their bodies and make time to care for their health.” At the time, the Heat legend did not keep up with regular doctor visits.

After his father’s own prostate cancer tribulations, Dwyane Wade decided for a full-body scan. Which in turn proved to be a potentially life-saving decision. He stated on his podcast: “I didn’t go in for my kidneys. But because I did the full-body scan, they saw something.” Despite finding the tumor, the 43-year-old had to go under the knife for one key reason.

Since the tumor couldn’t be biopsied, Dwyane Wade had no choice but to undergo surgery to find out if it was cancerous. It’s the same year when the 3x NBA earned his Hall of Fame induction. In January 2024, the Miami Heat celebrated ‘Dwyane Wade Night’ to celebrate his HOF legacy. At the time, nobody knew that it was right after his kidney surgery. The 13x All-Star never intended to share any of this with the fans. But his close friend, Bobby Metelus, suggested doing it.
