Charles Barkley would be the first to tell you that being a man doesn’t automatically make you better at golf, and he should know: from starting with an atrocious swing to eventually making the American Century Championship, the Philadelphia 76ers legend has come a long way. Though he himself doesn’t have any objection to women playing golf, Barkley recently made heads turn by revealing why he thinks other men may not want women on the golf course.

I know women are gonna get all bent out of shape… A lot of times, guys do not want to see women on the golf course cause they always got some type of BS or drama going on,” Charles Barkley said during a recent episode of the Back2You show. The 11x All-Star believes that when men are on the golf course, they want to strictly focus on the game. So that’s why they don’t want to have women in the sport, as he believes that women aren’t focused enough on the game and may get distracted, thereby distracting the men in the process.

However, Barkley himself is not strictly business, as he has revealed in the past that he would always consume alcohol while playing golf. He said, “You can’t play golf and not drink. It’s the most unbeatable game in the world.” He has also stated this as one of the reasons why he still plays the game. But this in turn has helped Barkley get better at it over the years.

Charles Barkley did everything to get better

He has even tried switching hands to make things better. When that didn’t work, Barkley sought help from professionals in golf to improve himself. Barkley also focused on the mental aspects of the game, along with the physical toll on his body. After learning the ins and outs, and practicing relentlessly, Barkley started getting better at the game, and now stands as an inspiration for aspiring athletes to not give up on what they like.
