Women’s History Month: Magic Johnson Pays Powerful Tribute To 4 Women

Magic Johnson has continuously shown his interest in women’s success. From huge leaps like investing in the Los Angeles Sparks to cheering for women athletes on any occasion, he has displayed how much he is dedicated to the cause. Apart from the sports world, Johnson has also influenced women’s growth. Time and again, he has also shown his gratitude towards his female colleagues for helping him and his associations, making his legacy successful. Following the same, the Lakers icon applauded his four co-workers on the very first day of Women’s History Month.

March seems to hold great significance for the influential NBA legend Magic Johnson as he extends his appreciation and awe toward the growth of women in every field. On March 1, which marks the beginning of Women’s History Month, The Magic Man took to his Instagram story and penned a beautiful yet empowering message with his followers. He mentioned the four successful female Sports Legal Executives in DC.

In his message, he said, “On day one of Women’s History Month, I want to shine a light on all the female sports legal representatives in the DC area.” He named his Commanders Chief Legal Office and SVP for Business Affairs, Mali Friedman, Washington Spirit GC, Shameeka Quallo, Monumental Sports and Entertainment EVP and GC, Abby Blomstrom, and Washington Nationals SVP and GC, Betsy Philpott.

He further added his thoughts, “The presence of female sports executives in Washington, D.C. is powerful! Their representation brings diverse perspectives to decision-making and serves as an inspiration for young girls aspiring to leadership roles in sports. I am proud that my Commanders and fellow DC teams recognize having women in these positions not only elevates the sports industry but also reflects a more inclusive and equitable society.”

The 5x NBA champion has repeatedly contributed to advancing women’s sports and advocated for their equality. This he has done both for basketball and other sports.

Magic Johnson helped women-owned businesses during COVID-19

Magic showed his interest in funding women’s sports and businesses very early on. After his retirement, the inclination only grew further. Quite recently, he offered $100 million in capital for minority and women-owned businesses during the COVID-19 stay-at-home policy to fund their federal loans. His EquiTrust Life Insurance Company also finances the under-acknowledged businesses.

This will allow them to keep their employees and keep their doors open,” Johnson had said back in 2020. Furthermore, he has often been a keynote speaker at various women-centric events.
