Sending your child away to study alone in a different corner of the world is a major decision, even for celebrity parents. There are a lot of emotions involved in it. Dwyane Wade and his wife Gabrielle Union are going through all of these emotions for the first time as their daughter, Zaya Wade, after headlining major fashion shows around the world, is gearing up to experience the most typical part of her young adulthood. And that is college life.

Needless to mention the 16-year-old has got her parents and siblings stressed out for her. Zaya’s stepmother Union recently opened up about the kid starting her college hunt. “I think she is so calm about it ’cause I think she knows exactly where she wants to go, but I think she’s humoring us with seeing what our country has to offer,” Union said about Zaya during her interview with ET’s Rachel Smith.

She further added, “We’re stressed out. We’re stressed out about her being away from us… [Parents all have the] same nerves and anxieties about sending your babies away. It’s tough.” Furthermore, she is worried that Zaya will be on her own now and won’t have her parents right next to her anytime. 

The Bring It On actress expressed her stress on the fact that she won’t be able to help Zaya with her studies, as she plans to take up a major in astrobiology, which is far from sociology, the course Union studied. “She wants to major in astrobiology, so there’s only so much help we can offer, to be honest… I was a Sociology major…’Girl you’re on your own,'” Union said.

We are yet to find out which college will become Zaya’s destination. Although it would be nostalgic for her to join her father’s alma mater, she would need to find a college that could enhance her career as a model and offer her the best education for astrobiology. And that’s certainly not easy. 

Her parents also joined her in the college hunt. The Miami Heat legend shared a few adorable glimpses from their visit to several colleges on his Instagram. You can see Union in the photos. The post is captioned, “We’re in the College Visits season!!!”

The model recently attended her prom as well. For the event, Zaya donned an elegant black Miu Miu gown and completed the look with accessories from the same brand. While she received some teasing from her brother Zaire on Instagram about her mysterious prom date, both Wade and Union showed their support by reposting it on their Instagram Stories. Apart from all the obvious stress, it’s a new beginning and a moment of celebration too for the Wade family.
