Who better to discuss the career path than the guy who has successfully covered most of it for himself? The Washington Commanders’ Terry McLaurin seems to have found this person in Magic Johnson. Notably, from being affected by the Commanders’ loss to being hopeful with recent additions, it appears the team has become more than just an investment for Johnson. And his recent lunch outing with McLaurin is enough to testify about his active involvement with the Commanders.

Taking to his official Instagram account, the 5x NBA champ posted a photo of him and McLaurin. “I took Commanders star receiver Terry McLaurin to lunch today in Los Angeles to talk about the Commanders, life after football, and his entrepreneurial aspirations!” read the caption to Magic Johnson’s IG post.

The 26-year-old WR has been with the franchise since 2019 and has been one of the team’s best performers. He finished last season with 4 touchdowns and 1002 yards, thus becoming the first player in franchise history to record four straight 1000-yard seasons. It is understandable why Magic would like to connect with McLaurin at this difficult time for the Commanders.

However, this is not the first instance that Magic Johnson has shown an active involvement in his NFL team. Notably, the Commanders’ performance in the last NFL season really upset the ex-LA Lakers star. It is worth mentioning that the Commanders lost 13 of the 17 matches in the season. What came as even greater disappointment was the team closing the season with a losing streak of 8 games.

The team’s run was so terrible that Magic Johnson could not help but voice his disappointment mid-season itself. “Disappointing 14-7 loss for my Commanders to the NY Giants. It’s hard to win in the NFL when you only score 7 points,” the 64-year-old had posted on X. However, it seems Terry McLaurin’s recent performance and the addition from the NFL 2024 Draft have brought a sense of hope for the Lakers icon.

Magic Johnson’s excitement on Commanders drafting Jayden Daniels

The 2023 Heisman Trophy winner’s addition to the Commanders came as an important move for the team. It is worth mentioning that Daniels not only displayed impressive stats in his college football days but earned multiple other awards and accolades. Some of these include the Heisman Trophy, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, Davey O’Brien Award, and Manning Award.

Additionally, he also secured the 2023 SEC Offensive Player of the Year title for himself. So it was obvious that Magic Johnson was not able to contain his excitement about this addition after a disappointing NFL season. “Selecting a winner like Jayden Daniels will energize the players and our fan base!” he posted on X. Now it is to be seen what this latest addition and Johnson-guided McLaurin bring to the team.
