The 5x NBA champion is part of the group that bought the ownership of NFL’s Washington Commanders. Harris also owns majority stakes in the Philadelphia 76ers and NHL’s New Jersey Devils.

What does the new initiative mean for the NFL?

In an interview with TODAY, the Los Angeles Lakers legend was seen breaking down in tears as he described what a great opportunity it was for him and the future leaders.

The new initiative also focuses its priority on boosting the number of minority businesses and broadening diversity. The NFL source will encourage teams to connect with underrepresented populations through business. By doing this, this initiative will likely promote diversity and inclusivity within the NFL and its surrounding communities.

According to sources, teams will receive a diversity playbook that includes potential business owners for collaboration. Additionally, there will be a dedicated website for teams to connect with these businesses.

NFL’s Senior Vice President and Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer, Jonathan Beane, shared a few words on this new program. “NFL Source involves the clubs (teams), it involves the league, and it involves our tentpole events. It touches everything. At the league office, we are ramping up our efforts to drive supplier diversity in IT, marketing, content, and every business unit is looking for specific opportunities. Whenever a contract comes up, we’ll slate diverse vendors,” Beane said.
