It’s a given at this point that if you hype Wemby around Shaq, he’s going to bring in Bol Bol. The Spurs went 102-87 over the Grizzlies today and Victor Wembanyama was responsible for 18 of those points along with 7 rebounds and 6 assists in half the game. Shaquille O’Neal started his agenda right from the Wemby highlights on TNT. He wouldn’t even let Jamal Crawford, who shared some nifty ball-handling tips to Wemby at the All-Star Weekend, revel in all the praise being sent his way for ‘creating a monster.’

Shaq was insistent that Wemby is second to Bol Bol in dribbling. Despite the fact that he only played for seven minutes against the Clippers and made 2 points while the Suns lost 92-105. Crawford simply refuted Shaq’s claim. “He’s like a guard who can dribble, Shaq. He’s not number two,” he told to his face. And yet while the Tuesday crew is hyping Wemby, Shaq looks like a sinister cat on the side ready to insert his Bol Bol agenda.

Wemby had seven blocks today including busting Shamggod Wells’s signature moves. And the TNT crew except Shaq were discussing if he was a DPOY contender. Crawford and Candace Parker almost say that Wemby is showing Shaq-like instinct.

O’Neal does say Wemby is the “second guy to do it.” But he’s referring to Bol Bol and not himself as the first one.

Parker and Crawford are not dismissive of Bol Bol as perhaps Charles Barkley would be. But they were frustrated that Shaq refuses to acknowledge Wembanyama was phenomenal today.

They even questioned Shaq when did Bol Bol do a Shamggod spin move. O’Neal whispers something incomprehensible but he doesn’t let up.

Shaquille O’Neal vaguely acknowledges Wemby

Since Wembanyama kickstarted his rookie campaign, Shaquille O’Neal has been putting Bol Bol over him. He was hyped during those moments Bol came in clutch for the Suns too. But not enough are convinced that he’s comparable to Wemby’s numbers.

For all of his ‘Bolwagon’ mania, Shaq does acknowledge that Bol Bol is too “lazy” to chase those stats unlike Wemby. Perhaps he’s pushing Bol to earn more minutes on the court but who knows.

He’s also giving his co-analysts a whiplash by suddenly acknowledging that Wemby could win DPOY. But only because a 7’5″ player should lead the league in blocks naturally, according to him. Parker even accused him of “discrediting” them with his back and forth.

Once again, Shaq has made strong claims about Wemby and Bol Bol. Do you think they hold any merit?
