Rookie sensation with the San Antonio Spurs, Jeremy Sochan, is shining on the court like lightning. Nevertheless, attention now is not drawn only to his skill on the court; there has also been a similarity with NFL Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman. It has emerged as one of the hottest issues in basketball circles. However, Jeremy Sochan has had enough of the Rodman comparisons and wants to set the record straight.

Battling the Comparison

Ever since Jeremy Sochan entered the NBA, it was difficult not to notice the resemblance to Dennis “The Worm” Rodman. Everything from wild, multi-colored hair, to the fearless hustle, to even unconventional free throw attempts it all appeared as an homage to the legendary Hall of Famer.

However, in a recent clip shared on YouTube, Sochan opened up about his feelings towards these constant comparisons, saying, “I promise you right now, I have no weird obsession with Rodman. It just happened, you know what I mean?”

He continued, “I wasn’t a Rodman fanboy growing up. I don’t want to be Rodman; I want to be Jeremy Sochan. It’s pretty funny, but at times, it does get annoying.”

It’s only natural for the youngster to be frustrated. Comparing someone to a basketball legend may sound like flattery but actually implies a huge responsibility. Therefore, Sochan has vowed to cut his way in the NBA and not be known only within the shadow of Rodman’s legacy.

Embracing the Rodman Legacy

When Sochan made an attempt to shoot a one-handed free throw in a real NBA game against the Houston Rockets that became another peak of comparison with Dennis Rodman. The shot had Worm-like written all over it; recalling the “Worm” himself, who used to have similar free throws during his mid-’90s stint as a Spur.
Still, only one of those four was successful; yet this is a brave act for the fourth-place man in the table of free throws hit by a player who has only a 43% success rate in taking free throws. It was a moment when he caught a flash of himself as he once had been bold, daring, a man taking risks.

Struggles at the free-throw line were also not peculiar to Rodman who was noted for his unconventional play. During his entire career, Rodman converted only 58% of his free throws, a fact that has possibly irked even managers and fans, but surely did not discourage him from his continuous pursuit.

Finally, even though the comparisons of Jeremy Sochan with Dennis Rodman will go on, it’s evident that this young player has his own chapter in the history of the NBA, which he’s writing himself. It’s quite possible that in the process, he embraced some elements of Rodman’s tradition unintentionally. He, however, makes sure that everyone understands that he is Jeremy Sochan, the upcoming star, who has a distinctive storyline in the game of basketball.
