After a quiet trade window, Los Angeles Lakers have been targeting free agents. Their pursuit for former Indiana Pacers man Darren Collison stopped when the player chose not to come out of retirement. Recent reports suggested that Collison would not come out of retirement. The Lakers are now linked to former Miami Heat guard Dion Waiters.

The rumors have surfaced very soon after Memphis Grizzlies waived Waiters. Waiters had come to Memphis only days back. He was a part of the trade deal that saw Andre Iguodala move to Miami. But his stay in Memphis did not extend beyond a few days as the Grizzlies decided to waive him.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN has now reported that the Lakers are interested in signing the 28-year old. He wrote on Instagram:

“Lakers president and GM Rob Pelinka previously represented Waiters as a player agent.

It has been quite evident in recent times that the Lakers need a playmaking guard. A player whom the team can look at, beyond the star duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

The Lakers are canvassing the league for a playmaking guard and considering several possibilities, which include waiting to see who else might become available in the buyout marketplace,” Wojnarowski further wrote. “As the Lakers had with free agent Dwight Howard, there needs to be a feeling-out process on Waiters’ state of mind after the tumultuous ending to his Miami Heat career, the sources said.
