Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis talked about the importance of his teammate Kyle Kuzma.

During the midseason Trade window, many viewed Kuzma as a trade asset for the Lakers. There were reports suggesting his exit. He was linked with moves to teams like Sacramento Kings during the trade window.

However, Kuzma remained with the Lakers as the trade window came to an end on February 6. The Lakers, after a strong start to the season, are eyeing their first NBA Championship in the post-Kobe Bryant era. The star duo of Anthony Davis and LeBron James has been one of the prime reasons for their success this season. But they need a capable scorer outside of the two, the need for which was visible during a busy Christmas period that saw the Lakers lose consecutive games. While Kuzma was believed to be such a player initially, his season did not come off to a particularly good start.

Kuzma’s biggest opportunity arrived when he came in as a replacement for an injured Anthony Davis. He grabbed it with both hands when he went on a scoring spree in Davis’ absence.

The Lakers were reportedly looking for a veteran who could help them in their Championship run and draft picks for future seasons. Kuzma, if managed properly has the potential to fill those roles. He is 23 and his prime years are yet to come. If the Lakers manage to groom him, he could be a player for the future while also helping them this season.
