The Brooklyn Nets have a star lineup with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving at their disposal. Although these two players have not committed their 100% to the team, the Nets are progressing well in the league. With Kevin Durant sidelined for the rest of the season, Kyrie Irving is also expected to miss out on the same, as his shoulder is not completely recovered

John Hollinger, the former VP of Basketball Operations at Memphis Grizzlies, joined the ‘Glue Guys Podcast,’ a channel that produces exclusive Brooklyn Nets content. He spoke about the head-coach problem that they face and also looked into the possibilities of the Nets buying a third superstar.

Who should the Brooklyn Nets sign to partner KD and Kyrie?

The hosts wanted to know if the Nets should push for a third superstar to bring into the team which would effectively help Irving and Durant next season. Hollinger mentioned his take on who he would prefer to sign considering the Nets’ playing style.

“Well for this team, you know the ball is going to be in the hands of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant 90% of the time. So, if you’re trying to bring in a third guy who is also ball-dominant, that’s hard to work out.”

Hollinger pointed out the Nets need a guy who can create as much impact without the ball in his hands. Someone who makes quick runs and creates a threat inside the arc. He was quick to point out Rudy Gobert as the man with the matching ability.

“The lob threat with Rudy Gobert and his rim run opens things up more for Kyrie and Durant. It makes them more effective,” he further added. Hollinger also pointed out the weakness in the Nets defense. He felt Durant’s return from an injury would limit his defensive skills. Kyrie Irving, on the other hand, can’t be relied upon as a proper defensive player.

Rudy Gobert, who plays the center position is the man to go to, according to Hollinger. At 7-foot-1, the leverage he brings with him on the defensive end will largely benefit any team. He plays his role perfectly and creates a major impact with his all-round abilities.

Should the Brookly Nets go in search of the third star-man for the team, Gobert would be their man. His partnership with Durant and Irving would be destructive.
