Anthony Davis had a flying start to the NBA season. He was performing both his jobs with precision. His game complemented that of LeBron James, and his individual score was also soaring. But something went off as the expectations began building up. As a result, the Los Angeles Lakers lost more than they won.

In the first three games, AD averaged a whimsical 30 points per game. But in the next three, he got a pitiful 11.33 ppg. This was a major dip. The same folks who were quick to call him an MVP material were now criticizing his game. He seems to have regained his lost rhythm against the Denver Nuggets as he scored a winning 27 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. But this inconsistency is raising doubts.

Can Anthony Davis be a match-winner for the Los Angeles Lakers in the playoffs?

The average of 37% field goals in the last three games has put a dent in AD’s value. But things were not this way before the Bubble. In fact, AD was one of the most consistent players for the Lakers, who would easily get the points in double digits, minus an occasion or two. AD is also a frontrunner for the Defensive Player of the Year award and his worth in the team is huge.

The remaining one seeding game against the Sacramento Kings is more of a practice game for the Lakers, who are locked at #1 in the Western Conference ranking.

Playing for the New Orleans Pelicans, Anthony Davis reached playoffs twice. In those playoff seasons, he averaged 30.5 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game. His FG% stood tall at 52% while his accuracy from the free-throw line was 85%. This is a standing proof that he can play better when they play more crucial games.

The Lakers have struggled offensively with a very poor three-point shooting percentage. But when we call them #3 in the defense, we know that AD is the man who adds a lot to this strength of the men in purple and golden. The head coach Frank Vogel has used enough rotation to bring consistency to the team as they enter the playoffs. He has found his new gun in Talen Horton-Tucker while Danny Green, JaVale McGee, Kyle Kuzma (the one who converted the buzzer-beater three against the Nuggets), Alex Caruso are some reliable names that will have to stand for the occasion.
