Despite being 36 years old, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is still the best player in the league. It feels silly looking back at the number of times he has been robbed of the MVP award despite clearly being the best.

Ahead of their clash against the Lakers, Celtics coach Brad Stevens has weighed in on this. He said, “He’s as special as special gets. He’d be a multiple-time more MVP winner if people didn’t get bored and look for other things to discuss.”

While this voters’ fatigue was often talked about before, it now has authority behind it. Stevens’ Celtics have often been tormented by LeBron, but that hasn’t stopped him from recognizing what LeBron has achieved. After Giannis Antetokounmpo beat him last season, the Lakers’ star spoke about how requirements to win MVP change every season.

In some seasons, the best player on the best team wins it. But there have been other seasons where that hasn’t been followed.

LeBron James and his history with snubs

He was also robbed of a unanimous MVP in 2013 for the most ridiculous reason. Journalist Dan Le Batard voted for Carmelo Anthony instead and explained it by saying, “When I placed my NBA MVP vote a few weeks ago, I knew I would be in the minority. I knew LeBron James was the prohibitive favorite to win his fourth award because he unquestionably is the best player in the game.

“I voted for Carmelo Anthony based on his importance to the New York Knicks, who, if you haven’t been paying attention the past decade, have failed to be relevant.”

But it has become a trend to ‘hate’ or ‘criticize’ LeBron, so it has just been brushed off. The NBA also robbed him of a DPOY in that same season. What made it worse was that eventual winner Grizzlies’ Marc Gasol was not even part of the All-Defense First Team.

It has been over seven years since that incident, but LeBron is still not happy about it. He joked about it back in December, when he said that his now-teammate Gasol has his DPOY trophy at home.

There is no doubt that he will go down in history as one of the greatest of all-time, but LeBron will also be remembered as one of the most disrespected players of all-time.
