The Los Angeles Lakers traded away Danny Green in the off-season after he helped them win the NBA title. Currently, at the Philadelphia 76ers, he is now ready to embrace a new role that is similar to what he had during his Raptors days.

During his show, Inside the Green Room, the three-time NBA champion discussed his role with the 76ers. He said, “My job is to lead, making winning plays defensively. Offensively, space the floor, knock down shots. This situation is more pivotal than LA. Because LA we had so many veterans. They didn’t need my coaching or my intellect or IQ.”

At the 76ers, he is one of the three players who are older than 30. So his experience will be vital to this younger unit.

Similarities with the situation at the Toronto Raptors

Later, Green added how he is going to mentor a group of players who are still learning, similar to what he had in Toronto. He said, “This situation is very similar to Toronto, where am coming with a group of younger guys that are still learning how to win. Be more of a locker room voice. They didn’t need that in LA. They needed that in Toronto, and kind of similar here.

“There are a little older than what Toronto was, but I’m here to be that voice and try to teach them the small things, details of what it takes to win.”

Green was traded to Toronto along with Kawhi Leonard in 2018. The Raptors had a relatively young team, so Green took over as the leader. He was a locker room leader and also led by example on the court.

Can Danny Green replicate his success with the Philadelphia 76ers?

The 76ers have been starved for success for decades. They haven’t tasted silverware since Moses Malone led them to the championship in 1983. When they drafted Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid, their fortunes were expected to change, but they still haven’t even reached the Conference Finals yet.

Green will be hoping that he can imbibe the championship DNA in the team and help them break their rut of bad playoff runs. The 76ers have got better than last season, and they have brought in a new coach in Doc Rivers. Green will have a lot of responsibility in the upcoming season, and he will be a huge presence in their locker room.
