The Portland Trail Blazers pulled off the impossible and took the New Orleans Pelicans out tonight. Orchestrating this outstanding performance was Damian Lillard, who had a ridiculous 50 point-10 assist game. Along with fans, fellow NBA stars were also off their seats watching Lillard give the works to the Pelicans. They even took to Twitter to express their appreciation for Lillard’s performance.

Lillard’s heroics helped the Blazers to sneak a one-point win over the Pelicans. Scoring 50 in such a game is remarkable, and to do so while getting 10 assists is impeccable. As Draymond Green pointed out, scoring 50 on just 20 shots is also an absurd feat.

Damian Lillard leads the Blazers to a brilliant comeback win

The Pelicans led the game right from the first quarter and refused to give up the lead. Despite the Blazers doing their best, the Pelicans were resilient. In the final quarter, the Blazers were down by 17 points with 6 minutes left to play. Inspired by Lillard, they closed out the game with a 25-7 run. Lillard assisted on or scored 18 out of those 25 points.

With the game on the line, Lillard nailed both of his free throws to reach 50 points. With both CJ McCollum and Jusuf Nurkic out, the Blazers are playing without their second and third-best players. Despite that, Lillard is doing his best and has got the Blazers to a respectable record of 23-16 in a tough Western Conference. He is doing so while averaging 31 points, five rebounds, and eight assists for the season.

It was the 12th 50 point game of his career, which puts him on level terms with LeBron James. This is also Lillard’s third 50 point 10 assists game in the last two seasons. The rest of the league has combined to get just one such performance in this time span.

Can the Blazers have a strong playoff performance this season?

After an impressive Western Conference Finals run in 2019, the Blazers crashed out in the first round last season. They faced the eventual champions, Lakers, who dumped them out in five games.

The Blazers will hope to improve from that and do better this season. However, if the standings stay this way, they are likely to face the Lakers again. It will be a monumental task, but the Blazers will aim for revenge.
