Former Celtics Star Isaiah Thomas Announces He is Ready to Make a Return

The shortest player to win an MVP in the NBA is Allen Iverson, who was just six feet tall. But standing at just 5’9, former Boston Celtics star Isaiah Thomas came close to beating him in 2017. That was a record-breaking season for IT, who became the shortest player to make an All-NBA team.

After suffering a hip injury during the 2017 playoffs, Isaiah’s career has gone downhill. In the last three seasons, he has played just 84 games and is currently without a team. However, he now believes he is in the best shape to return. He spoke about how Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and John Wall were impressed by him during a recent workout.

“Those guys were like, ‘Damn, welcome back. You really look like yourself,'” Thomas said. “That only gave me more confidence to be able to play the game again. I mean, I was blowing by people. I haven’t blown by anybody since I had a Celtics uniform on. When I was able to blow by MVP-caliber players, that told me my burst and power, and speed are there.”

Will a team take a chance with the former Boston Celtics star?

After suffering that injury, Isaiah had not completely recovered but was still trying to play.

“I was really playing on one leg against the best players in the world,” he said. “That’s difficult for anybody. I just had to adjust my game to where I was able to make an impact in any way possible. I relied on my jump shot more than I usually do, and my strength has always been getting in the paint and finishing around the rim. Now I’m able to move, get to the hoop, and put pressure on the defense.”

Despite that, Isaiah put up a career-best of 40% from three during the 2019-20 season, during the 40 games he played for the Wizards. He might still be able to contribute to a team that gives him a chance. But there have been no teams that have expressed interest as of now.

Thomas has always been a fighter. From being picked with the last pick of the draft in 2011, to being an MVP candidate, Thomas has always worked hard. Hopefully, he will be able to get a roster spot on a team soon.
