The Golden State Warriors got the worst news possible when Klay Thompson injured himself during practice. The three-time NBA champion had just come off a year of recovery from a previous ankle injury that he suffered during the 2019 NBA Finals. And now, he is set to be on the sidelines for yet another season.

Former Warriors surgeon Dr John Belzer recently spoke about Thompson’s injury and potential recovery. He said it would take Klay at least nine months if not longer to recover. But he is positive about Klay returning to his best post-recovery.
“These guys are competitors, and they work harder than anybody you’ve ever seen,” Belzer said. “I think Klay will get back to a level that will allow him to participate at an elite level like he has for many years. I expect great things out of Klay for a few more years before he hangs up his shoes.”

Will the Warriors manage without Klay Thompson?
The Warriors have won three titles in the 2010s, and Thompson was a huge part of each of them. His elite shooting combined with his amazing defense helped the Warriors in each playoff series. He has been one of their most consistent players who doesn’t mind not being in the spotlight. His unselfishness has got the best out of the team and has been vital in each title run.
Can the Warriors challenge for the title without all of this? It will be very tough without a doubt. The last time they won without Kevin Durant was in 2015, when Draymond Green was playing at DPOY levels and Thompson shot lights out every time. They don’t have Thompson now, and Green has regressed a lot since then.

To make matters worse, LeBron James has come to the West and made it his own playground. He led the Lakers to the Conference title last season and followed it up with the NBA title. So going up against them will also be a huge challenge.

The Warriors have an exciting roster and many players who will be eager to feature for a contending team. Players like Andrew Wiggins and Kelly Oubre Jr will be asked to step up, while rookies James Wiseman and Nico Mannion will also be vital for the team. At the top of it all, Steph Curry’s leadership will be at an all-time high and the Warriors will rely on him heavily.
They might not be able to challenge for the title, but counting out the Warriors is never a good idea.
