After not qualifying for the playoffs last year, the Lakers turned it around completely and won the title this season. With this win, star LeBron James got the fourth ring of his career, further cementing his status as an all-time great. But even after this, people have found a way to spread hate about him.

Former Warriors big man Marreese Speights shared a meme on Twitter which said, “Back then we used to celebrate three-peats. Now kids are out here celebrating four titles in ten tries and call it greatness.”

Later, NBA insider Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson tweeted, clarifying that Speights didn’t mean to hate. Speights was just reminding people to be respectful to Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan.

What makes it worse is that Speights denies hating on LeBron, but shared a meme from a page called “Bronsux.” These actions don’t make it seem like he thinks too highly of Bron. One might call this move petty, and could hint at the former Warriors center still being upset about the 3-1 comeback he suffered at the hands of LeBron.

The GOAT debate can often turn ugly, but disrespecting one player to praise another isn’t a mature move. Kobe went through this, and so did Jordan. Liking one player doesn’t have to come at the expense of another.

After tweeting that, Speights then proceeded to make his account private, probably because he must have been bombarded by LeBron fans. Speights is currently plying his trade in the Chinese League after spending a decade in the NBA. Opinions are not easy to change, so one can only hope he stops hating on LeBron.
