The Golden State Warriors were in a prime position to be contenders for the upcoming season. But they got the worst news possible as Klay Thompson suffered an Achilles injury just a month before the season started. Because of this, he has been ruled out for the season.

Following this, the Warriors acted quickly to bring in a replacement and traded for Kelly Oubre Jr from the Thunder. During a recent interview, Oubre spoke about Klay’s injury and how that gave him a chance. “Unfortunately, Klay went down, and I wouldn’t wish that on anybody. I can’t wait for him [Klay] to be healthy so we can have full force,” Oubre said.

Thompson had just recovered from an ankle injury, which occurred during the 2019 NBA Finals. That had kept him out of the whole of the 2019-20 season. Fans were excited for his return to action, but this news has not only left Warriors fans shattered but all NBA fans.

“End of the Dynasty”- NBA Analyst Predicts Downfall of Warriors After Klay Thompson’s Injury

Will Kelly Oubre be able to fill for Klay Thompson at the Warriors?

Thompson is one of the best shooters the league has ever seen. He has averaged 41% from three during his career and is one of the most reliable players. Not only is he a force on the offense, but he is also a great defender, and is probably the best 3&D player in the league.

While Oubre is not an exact replacement, the Warriors will have to find a way to fit him in. Last season was the first time he shot 35% from three, which is an encouraging sign that he is getting better. He is an explosive player and is not afraid to meet anyone at the rim. Last season, he had many memorable dunks, including his poster on Paul George.

Oubre is also a respected defender. Not only is he good one on one, but he can also make a difference by reading the game well, which is why he is one of the best in the league at getting deflections. With his passing lane awareness, he averaged 1.3 steals per game last season, and his rim protection skills were also on full display as he put 0.7 blocks per game.

The Warriors have got a steal in Oubre since they just had to give up one first-round pick and one second-round pick for him. He is going to play a huge part in their success during the upcoming season.
