After being the star of Under Armour for over seven years, Stephen Curry is now getting his own brand. In partnership with UA, the Golden State Warriors star is now launching the Curry Brand. This is a move to compete with Nike and their Jordan Brand. Curry is following in the footsteps of Michael Jordan, who had the aforementioned Jordan Brand, and Dwyane Wade, who had the Way of Wade.

“That is the long-term vision: to be able to pass the torch off to people that are like-minded and put their name behind something good and do good in the community and be a part of overall impact and thinking outside of themselves.

“That is the long-term goal. We have some plans on that but nothing to talk about yet,” he told Sports Illustrated.

Stephen Curry: Growing his legacy

With this move, Curry wants to give back to the community. Under Armour wrote that “By 2025, the Curry Brand aims to create at least 20 safe places to play, support 125 programs that impact young athletes, and deliver opportunities to train more than 15,000 coaches — making an overall impact on more than 100,000 youth.”

So not only is this huge for Curry, but it’s also huge for the community that Curry plans on helping out. In this decade, he has established himself as one of the best players in the league, winning three titles and two MVPs. So he has made his presence known on the court, and now he is using this presence to branch out off-court.

According to Baller Shoes DB, Under Armour is currently the fourth most popular brand among NBA athletes. 3.6% of the players in the league wear UA, while there are eight players who wear the Steph Curry UA signature shoes. So the Curry brand will be banking on these numbers to get more popular in the community.
