Injuries can aggravate if not given enough rest, and Washington Wizards’ star John Wall has followed that mantra carefully. The five-time All-Star was sidelined with injury for almost two years and is now ready to make a return to the NBA.
“I feel great I’m 110%,” Wall said during a recent interview. “Taking care of my body on another level. In the past, I used to play through injuries, because I’m always wanting to compete. It was like the AI mindset, if it ain’t broke, you can play through it.
“The older you get, you gotta learn how to take control and time off. I’ve been out for almost two years. So now I’ve just been getting my body stronger, my legs stronger, different diet, and I feel great.”

His last game was back in December 2018. After having a season-ending surgery for his Achilles, it got worse for him when he had a fall later at home. That doubled his time out, and now finally he is ready to play, fully healthy.
Former Washington Wizards teammate recounts his injury downfall
When Wall arrived in Washington, they already had a star point guard in Gilbert Arenas. The three-time All-Star also had his bouts with injury and, not taking enough care of it led to a shortened career for him.
Arenas said, “When you get injured, you’re still trying to keep your place and trying to get better. So you play through injuries. That was my downfall with my injury that I didn’t take it seriously. They hit you with that ‘your 50% is better (than not playing),’ I’m cool with it. Not realizing that you have to get yourself in that 100% to do what you do best.”

Seeing his teammate go through that would have prompted Wall to take extra care. At his best, Wall is one of the premier point guards in the league. Not only is he a skilled scorer, but also an accomplished playmaker. His return will certainly be a huge boost for the Wizards, who will be hoping to make the playoffs for the first time since 2018.
