Yesterday ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski announced that the NBA will be relaxing bubble rules. Players will be allowed to bring some family and friends to the bubble. There is also an additional admission for a child (32 inches and below). Dallas Mavericks young star Luka Doncic took this opportunity to make fun of his short teammate JJ Barea.

The duo then had an exchange in Spanish where Barea angrily said, “Tomorrow we talk about this.” Doncic laughed and replied, “I love you.”

At 5’10”, Barea is among the shortest players in the league today. Despite that, he has proven to be an effective player off the bench. He was a vital part of the 2011 Mavericks ring season. But with him turning 36 this year, he barely featured for the Mavs and has made just 28 appearances this season.

Luka Doncic and JJ Barea’s close friendship

The duo has had many interactions that have taken over social media. Back in December, they flooded Twitter when they were laughing on the bench. Barea got up and pretended to warm up and he left Doncic in splits.

Last week, the Mavs Twitter account shared a video of the duo enjoying in practice. Doncic lifted up Barea, walked around carrying him and said, “Aye, my baby.”

Barea played over 25 minutes against Utah, which was only the second time in this season. He made the most out of it, putting up 18 points and eight assists while shooting 54% from the field. That helped the Mavericks cross the finish line as they beat the Jazz 122-114.

The Mavericks now play their last game against the Phoenix Suns tonight. The Suns have shone the brightest, winning seven out of seven games. It will be a tough time for Luka and the Mavs as they hope to stop the Devin Booker led juggernaut, who are aiming to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
