The LA Clippers lost unexpectedly to the Phoenix Suns last night. After missing the first two games, Sixth Man of the Year candidate, Lou Williams finally made an appearance. He had missed the first two games after being quarantined for 10 days because he broke protocol when he left the bubble in an emergency.

During the post-game interview, Williams reflected on his decision and regretted it. “In hindsight, as far as public safety issue goes, I probably could have made a better quality decision. I was a little naive in that aspect. I went somewhere after a viewing of somebody I considered a mentor, somebody that I looked up to.”

LA Clippers need Lou Williams to return to form

“The funeral home was a couple of blocks away from one of my favorite restaurants. It has been documented how much I talk about this place and how much I eat there. So I just did something that was routine to me. at that time I thought I was making a responsible decision. After looking back on it, with everything going on in the world and the pandemic, maybe it wasn’t the best quality decision.”

The Clippers missed Williams especially during their loss to rivals Lakers. Aside from Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, the whole team struggled with scoring. Williams could have filled that scoring void.

Prior to leaving, Williams had played just one scrimmage game. So last night, he played just 20 minutes as he tries to get back into full fitness. He scored seven points, shooting 3/8 from the field, and grabbed six rebounds and six assists during that appearance. With the Clippers 1-2 to start their bubble campaign, they will hope he can be the walking bucket he has been throughout the season.

The Clippers now play fellow strugglers Dallas Mavericks tomorrow. Interestingly both of them lost to the Suns by the exact same scoreline, 115-117. The Clippers will be hoping to put these losses behind as they aim to cement the second seed. The Nuggets are creeping on them, and are just one game behind. A couple of slips could see them falling to third. They will have to improve now as they hope to live up to their favorites tag.
