The Los Angeles Lakers can’t catch a break. Their stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis had just returned after weeks on the sidelines. And now, both of them are injured once again.

LeBron re-injured himself against the Kings while it happened to Davis against the Clippers tonight.

Early in the first half, Davis tweaked his ankle and then sat out. He backed into a table after taking a jumpshot and hurt his ankle.

Sadly, Lakers fans were unforgiving following this injury. Davis has had multiple bouts with injuries and fans seem to be losing patience. Many fans on Twitter expressed their annoyance at Davis for being “fragile.”

Before leaving the game, Davis played less than 10 minutes and had a terrible performance. He had just four points and shot 2-9 from the field.

There was no other contribution from him except for a solitary rebound. After guiding the Lakers to a huge win last time, he was a shadow of his best tonight and had a disappointing exit.

The most odd part about Davis’ injury was that the Lakers announced he wouldn’t return to the game due to back spasms. He left the game holding his ankle so fans are worried if that is a new injury or just a cover up to keep him rested for further games.

Following Anthony Davis and LeBron James’ injuries, are the Lakers not contenders anymore?

The Lakers won the 2020 NBA title following huge contributions from LeBron and Davis. They were the two best players in the league and no one could stop them.

However, they haven’t hit that form in the 2020-21 season so far. They had a decent start but since their injuries, both of them have been struggling.

Since his return from injury, Davis is averaging just 17.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. He is also shooting an underwhelming 40% from the field and 20% from three.

If he continues to play this way, the Lakers might be forced to enter the play-in tournament. LeBron re-injuring himself is also a big worry for the Lakers. He is their best player and without him, the Lakers will not be able to contend.

But one cannot forget that the Lakers struggled similarly before the 2020 playoffs as well. They won just three games and lost five seeding games before going on to win the title. Although the odds are not in their favor, fans will hope for a similar miracle.
