The Detroit Pistons have won the 2021 NBA Draft Lottery. For the first time since 1970, they have received the number one overall pick once again. And there are no doubts about who they should pick: Cade Cunningham.

The former Oklahoma State Cowboys star had an excellent season where he solidified his status as the best player from his draft class. He showed he can be a franchise cornerstone, and a dependable player as he led the Cowboys to relevance once again.

Now that the Pistons have won the lottery, few might question if Cunningham is still the right choice. But NBA analyst Jay Bilas has quashed all those doubts. During a recent segment on ESPN, Bilas reminded fans why Cade is still the perfect selection for the Pistons.

He said, “I still think it’s Cade Cunningham. He’s the most complete player from the draft at both ends of the floor. He’s an outstanding passer and has got great poise with the ball. He can shoot it at three levels. He’s also an underrated defender and a fantastic rebounder for his position. With his size and length and all of his skill set, I think Cade Cunningham is the best prospect in this draft.”

While Cunningham is the consensus #1 pick, the Pistons have not drafted him yet. But they are getting one more step closer to doing it as Cunningham’s camp has revealed he will not be visiting any other team for pre draft workouts.

Cunningham knows that he is the best prospect from his class, which is why his camp is making such a decision. It also means he doesn’t want to go elsewhere, so the Pistons front office would be ecstatic over his commitment.

Detroit was the only team in the league with two players in the All-Rookie teams, and now they have added another promising youngster into the team. They now have an exciting core of Cunningham, Saddiq Bey, Isaiah Stewart, and Killian Hayes. If the Pistons give them room to develop for a few seasons, this core can help them to become champions once again.
