During the 2019 off-season, the Los Angeles Lakers pulled off a mammoth trade. Giving away their three young stars and a multitude of picks, the Lakers brought in defensive juggernaut Anthony Davis to pair alongside star LeBron James.
Initially, a lot of rival fans pounced on this. They called it a bad trade, pointing out that the Lakers gave up their future. But now they have proved everyone wrong and are one win away from the championship. Moreover, Davis has been a huge part of this run. Despite this, GM Rob Pelinka was snubbed in the Executive of the Year voting, finishing seventh.

During an interview, Davis then said that these awards aren’t as important to Pelinka as titles are. So he doesn’t care about this award if they win the title.
“I know those awards don’t matter to him; championships do. We’re putting ourselves in a position, he put our team in a position to be able to be one win away. Once we finish our job & do what we’re supposed to do, then I don’t think no one is going to care about Executive of the Year.”
Snub will make title sweeter for the Los Angeles Lakers
Not only did Pelinka orchestrate the Davis trade, but he also brought in Dwight Howard and Markieff Morris on a minimum. All these pieces helped them to a number one finish in the West. Now, a title win is also on the cards.

Davis later said that winning this title after finishing seventh place will be even more special for Pelinka. “If that doesn’t get him that award, then so be it. And it would just make it even more special to win it now that I know he came in 7th & got one 1st-place vote.”

He also said that this isn’t the first snub for the Lakers and they are now used to it. “That’s kind of been a thing this year w/ myself w/ Defensive Player of the Year, LeBron w/ MVP, now Rob w/ Executive of the Year. But if we’re able to win one more game, then no one cares about those other awards. We’ll all be champions.”
