The back-to-back third overall picks in 2016 and 2017, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, have become the core of the Boston Celtics. Despite being young, they have shown maturity beyond their years and have also displayed leadership. Their chemistry on-court has also been amazing. Yesterday, a video of them practicing one on one against each other hit the internet, and fans instantly loved it.

Tatum has trained in the past with the late Kobe Bryant and it reflected in the video. The fadeaways he attempted showed his inner Mamba. But it was not good enough to beat Brown, who is a reputed defender. The video finally ends with Brown getting the last bucket over Tatum, with a spot-up fadeaway.

Brown and Tatum: Future of the Boston Celtics

“I guess we feed off each other,” Brown told Mass Live’s John Karalis back in December. “Kind of different games, kind of opposite, but it makes sense, like Fire and Ice. We just try to come out and be aggressive.”

Karalis also spoke to coach Brad Stevens, who was happy about his young duo. “They are really enjoying playing together and figuring it out with the rest of our team. Those two guys, in particular, have done a really good job in this early part of the season, just focusing on making the right plays.”

Then in January, during an interview with ESPN’s Jackie MacMullan, Tatum talked about his chemistry with Brown. “I really like how my relationship with Jaylen has grown this year. We’ve known each other a long time — all the way back to high school. It’s been really exciting to take that next step with him.”

Prior to the season’s suspension, the Celtics enjoyed a 20-2 record when both Tatum and Brown managed to score 19 points or more each. On the other hand, when either of the Celtics stars went down below the 19 PPG tally, the team struggled to win their games (22-20 record when both Tatum and Brown couldn’t score 19 points each).

With the NBA return nearing, the Celtics will be relying on this duo, along with star Kemba Walker, to take them all the way to the title in Orlando.
