The LA Clippers playoff debacle led to an exit for former head coach Doc Rivers. After spending seven years with the franchise, the coach decided to leave and joined the 76ers, who were also looking for a new coach let’s look at the top three candidates who can fill the coaching void left behind by Doc Rivers.

Tyronn Lue (LA Clippers assistant coach)

The most likely choice, current assistant coach Ty Lue, is the front runner for this role. After his title-winning stint with the Cavaliers as head coach, he was working under Rivers for the 2019-20 season. With Rivers gone, he will be eager to take over. He already has experience of working with this group of players. That is a head start over any other candidate.

But with many coaching vacancies in the league currently, the Clippers will have to hasten. New York, New Orleans, and Houston are the other teams who have been in contact with Lue. So the Clippers have to fight off multiple teams to seal Lue’s signature.

Mike Brown (Warriors assistant coach)

Another coach who has worked with LeBron James before, Mike Brown, had an interview with the Clippers yesterday. The former Cavaliers coach was working under Steve Kerr at the Warriors since 2016, but is deserving of a top spot on a contending team. Although he has won two rings with the Warriors, his most impressive feat is taking the unfancied Cavs all the way to the Finals in 2007.

Aside from LeBron, Brown has also worked with other superstars like Kobe Bryant, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant. So if he gets the job, he will have a new superstar in his hands with Kawhi Leonard.

The final candidate who has had an interview with the Clippers is Darvin Ham. The Milwaukee Bucks assistant has been coaching in the league since 2011 and has been deserving of a head coaching role for some years now.

According to Seth Partnow from The Athletic, Ham has “respect from players, curious mind, tactical acumen, ability to communicate well with everyone up and down an organization,” all key attributes an organization seeks from a head coach.

The LA Clippers now have an important decision to make as they head into the 2020-21 season, seeking to improve on this season’s performance and live up to the title favorites tag bestowed upon them.
