The National Basketball Association (NBA) has scheduled its third meeting in less than a week’s time. Such has been the hiatus in the NBA for a few days now.
The league had come to an abrupt halt with the officials announcing it on Wednesday in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic. The announcement came after Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert was tested positive for the dreaded virus. Not long after Gobert’s infection came out, his teammate, Donovan Mitchell was also tested positive for the virus. More recently, the news of third case of the coronavirus in the NBA came out with Detroit Pistons player, Christian Wood, being the victim.
Under the circumstances, it is difficult to predict whether and when the league would resume. While NBA Commissioner Adam Silver initially said that the situation would remain for at least a week, the most recent word seems to be a resumption in Summer. ESPN reported that the league could return mid-June with the season going deep into the summer.

As noted by Wojnarowski, there is plenty to discuss amidst the coronavirus pandemic. The suspension has already affected NBA’s finances. It would further plummet if they have to cancel the league. A loss in league’s revenue could mean a loss to the players with a reduced salary cap for the upcoming season.

At a lower level, the effects due to the league’s suspension could be far worse. It would directly affect the livelihood of many people associated with the league- directly or indirectly.
While there are many issues to discuss, it is unclear as to why the NBA has scheduled a call on Tuesday.
