Chinese league baller Jeremy Lin might have played just one season for Los Angeles Lakers but he had an interesting Kobe Bryant story to narrate on Danny Green’s podcast.

The 2014-15 season, when Lin was at the Lakers, was one of the worst seasons in the franchise’s history. Bryant had played just 35 games and he was already out for the season. The morale within the team wasn’t very good as they were hardly winning games.

Talking on the “Inside the Green Room,” podcast, Lin recalled how Bryant, typically, hit out at the team for their performance.

A stern Kobe Bryant greeted those in practice

The Lakers had a 13-34 record and the trade deadline was approaching. A day before the deadline, Lin said, the players were practicing and it was quite a while since Bryant had come as he was out with injury.

“Then he comes in, sweatshirt, he has a sling for his hurt shoulder, he has his shades on, his Kobe shades,” Lin said. “And he walks in and everyone’s like ‘ohhhhhhhhhh’ and Booz, Carlos Boozer, is like ‘Kob! Good to see you bro! Dang, we haven’t seen you in a bit, how come you came today?’”

Bryant, who had played over 18 years for the franchise, was far from happy with the team.

“He was just stone-faced, and he was like ‘I just came by to say bye to some of you bums who are going to get traded tomorrow.’ And then he sits down at the table where you control the scoreboard at the practice facility and he said a couple of words to the coach, and then he left.

“And I remember one of my teammates was just like ‘I lost all motivation to practice,’” Lin continued.

The Lakers eventually finished the season with one of their worst ever records. It was, in fact, one on the worst stretch of seasons in the franchise’s history. It was unfortunate that Bryant’s illustrious career had to end with so little sheen.

But by then Bryant already had so much glitter that hardly required a polish. He retired from NBA in 2016 as one of the best to have played the game.
