Cavaliers Teammate Reveals Details of How LeBron James Kept the Hopes Alive After Being 3-1 Down Against Warriors in 2016

A team coming back from a 3-1 deficit and winning an NBA Finals, till date, has happened only once. It was when LeBron James‘ Cleveland Cavaliers defeated Golden State Warriors in 2016.
The Warriors team had won the title in the previous year. It was also the Warriors that had set the record for the most number of wins in a season. But the Cavaliers somehow managed an incredible feat.

A part of the winning team, Iman Shrumpet, recently revealed how LeBron James always believed the Cavaliers would go through. In a recent appearance on “Inside the Association,” Shrumpet remembered James saying the Warriors would break down.

“We were either headed to Game 5 or from Game 5, but we were sitting on the bus, and Bron said, ‘They defeated. They don’t wanna come back here. They know if they don’t get it done in Cleveland, we coming back here and they’re gonna lose. I can see it in their face. Nobody wants to deal with that pressure,’” Shumpert said.

Being down 3-1 is too much.’ He just started putting this in our mind that this is how this is gonna go, and you’re gonna believe me because I’ve been through it, and I think when he did that, everybody calmed down and we started to feel like we damn near had an advantage being down.”

Two years after the win, James, having fulfilled a promise, left for a new challenge and joined Los Angeles Lakers. At 35, James continues to compete among the top players in the league. He, along with Anthony Davis, was leading the Lakers in their quest to getting back their glory. Shrumpet, meanwhile, is currently playing for Brooklyn Nets.
