“It Was Not an Easy Night”: Steve Kerr Narrates a Hilarious Betting Story of Michael Jordan From Their College Days

Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr revealed a funny betting story with his former teammate Michael Jordan.
It was during a game when Kerr was playing for the University of Arizona while Jordan was at the University of North Carolina. Kerr’s Wildcats defeated Jordan’s Tar Heels in the Final Four in 1997. It was when Jordan owed Kerr $20 on losing a bet. While Jordan gave a $20 bill, Kerr said he wasn’t happy about losing the bet.
“Jud Buechler also was on that team — my Arizona teammate. So there was a little bit of (trash) talk. We tread carefully around Michael. But we had a $20 bet, and Michael wadded up a $20 bill and threw it at me when I walked into the locker room for our game that night,” he said.

He said that Jordan just wouldn’t throw the ball to them during the practice session later. And instead, would throw it to the people near them.
“And then in layup lines that night, every time Michael would get the rebound to throw it to the shooter – if it were Jud or me – he wouldn’t throw it to us. He would just throw it to the guy behind us (laughter). It was not an easy night, but it was a good night.”

Steve Kerr tried to stay away from losing money to Michael Jordan
Kerr played for the Bulls for five seasons between 1993 and 1998. During his time with Jordan, he usually tried to stay away from losing money to Jordan. Kerr told ‘95.7 The Game’ that he tried to stay away from the games that Jordan was good at.
Steve Kerr on 95.7 The Game yesterday: “I never played in the varsity card game on the plane. That would have been idiotic. I played in JV card game. I never lost any money to Michael Jordan in a card game. I couldn’t play in that league.”

Kerr, like any other player on the Bulls side in the generation, had a fruitful campaign in terms of rings. He was a part of the Bulls side that achieved three-peat becoming the Champions in 1996, 1997, and 1998. Kerr went on to win the title the next year as well, playing for San Antonio Spurs. He has another title to his name, also with the Spurs, in his final season in NBA as a player in 2003.
