Dallas Mavericks’ big man Kristaps Porzingis suffered a meniscus tear in his right knee during the 2020 playoffs which caused a huge setback to his team. It was revealed that the Latvian will miss the start of the upcoming season and he recently connected with fans to provide an update on the recovery process.
“I’m doing pretty good, rehabbing like six days a week and I’m just focused on the rehab pretty much. I’m in a good place and just putting in the work necessary to be back on the court as soon as possible,” mentioned Porzingis.
Porzingis suffered the tear during the Mavs’ first-round fixture against the LA Clippers. He took a knock in Game 1, but the severity of the injury wasn’t revealed at once. Further examination proved that it was a severe knee injury, and the 25-year-old doesn’t want to rush things in order to return to action.
“We’re just taking it easy we’re taking our time and I’m pretty much there. I can’t wait to start doing more stuff. I’m in good hands and I know I have great people around me to make sure that they let me on the court whenever they think I’m ready to be on the court,” said Porzingis.
The Mavericks fell in the first round of the playoffs, and Porzingis’ injury deterred the team’s confidence. The seven-foot-three center believes they had a chance to beat the Clippers if not for his injury.
“For something like that to happen at that moment, it was tough,” he added.
Dallas have a terrific roster at their disposal. They boasted the most efficient attack last season and looked extremely dangerous in the postseason as well. Their low turnover advantage shaped the Mavericks as an offensive threat.
The team looked very promising in the playoffs, but Porzingis unfortunately injured himself. He averaged a career-high 20.4 points and 9.5 rebounds during the regular season and replicated his incredible form in the NBA bubble.
Fate put them in a losing position, but there’s always next year. Dallas has established itself as a massive playoff contender and they’re here to stay. The young roster is united towards achieving a single goal and they are every bit capable.
“At the end, we can look at the ultimate goal which is to win a championship. That has to be our motivation each and every day that we work. It’s no secret that that’s the goal for us and for our team so that’s what we’re gonna we’re gonna put all our all of our effort into,” Porzingis stated.
Luka Doncic has cemented his status as the future of the league and the Mavericks franchise. Porzingis is the perfect addition to compliment his talents on the big stage. The upcoming season shines plenty of promise on the team. How far will the talented duo take the Dallas Mavericks in 2021?
