Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James posted a few tweets around the latest episodes of ESPN’s documentary on Michael Jordan- The Last Dance. James seemed to be tweeting while watching the episodes on Sunday.

In 1993, after winning the first three-peat with Chicago Bulls, Jordan announced retirement. It was shocking considering MJ had established himself as the best player in the league and he still had a good number of playing years in front of him. And considering his attitude, Jordan would be the last person someone would associate with quitting.

However, Jordan retired suggesting he had lost interest in the game. He also cited his father’s death as one of the reasons. His father was murdered by two teenagers who were later found. They had found James Jordan’s body only after a few days in a river.

Considering how surprising Jordan’s announcement of his retirement was, it isn’t surprising at a nine-year-old LeBron James had cried then. James wrote on Twitter on Sunday: “Definitely cried this day. 9 years of age. Just Couldn’t believe it.”

LeBron James hailed the return of Michael Jordan

Jordan then made another surprising announcement saying he would be playing in the Minor Baseball League (MiLB). He continued playing in the MiLB till 1995 when there was an ongoing strike. In March 1995, he announced his return to the NBA.

He led a struggling Bulls side to playoffs on his return mid-season. Despite having not played for well over a year, Jordan dropped 55 points in the second game after his return at the Madison Square Garden against New York Knicks.

More famously, Jordan changed from No. 45 to 23 during the playoffs. Bulls had lost the playoff series against Orlando Magic that year but Jordan continued scoring at an average of 31 points per game although he was not at his fittest.

Magic’s Nick Anderson, after the first game of the series, had quite famously said that No. 45 wasn’t as difficult to stop as No. 23. Jordan came up with No. 23 in Game 2 of the series.

“Damn the series lost(rusty), MJ so cold that he went from 45 to 23 from game 1 to game 2 in the playoffs! Haha. That’s legendary!” James wrote in another tweet respecting the legend.
