Kevin Durant will be back next season, and will be wearing a Brooklyn Nets jersey. However, before Durant signed on a dotted line to join the Nets, there were many rumors that his preferred destination was the New York Knicks.

The Knicks have desperately needed a superstar ever since Carmelo Anthony left the franchise. But time and time again their hopes were shattered in free agency. In 2019, Durant became another star who was rumored to join the team but ultimately took his talents elsewhere.

Recently, KD appeared on The Old Man and the Three podcast, speaking to JJ Reddick. During the podcast, Durant explained he never intended to go to the Knicks. In fact, it never even crossed his mind. Durant said:

I never planned on going to the Knicks, that was just … the media put that out there.

I didn’t want to be the savior of the Knicks or New York, I didn’t care about being the king of New York. That never really moved me. I didn’t care about being on Broadway. I just wanted to play ball and go to the crib and chill. And that’s what Brooklyn embodied.

“Brooklyn was everything I’m about, chill, on the low, all black everything, we quiet, just focus on basketball. There’s no show when you come to our games. There’s no Madison Square Mecca, all of that sh*t. We just going to hoop and build something new over in Brooklyn… I felt that way around February leading up until March, and then once free agency hit, it was time.”

Sorry, Knicks fans. Joining the Knicks never even crossed Durant’s mind. KD’s decision to join forces with Kyrie Irving, hoping to win the title together, seems more plausible, anyway.

Is there any good news for the New York Knicks?

Losing the Slim Reaper to the Nets is all in the past. Right now, the Knicks need to focus on building a strong team heading to the 2020-2021 season. Moreover, they have the #8th pick in the 2020 NBA draft. Maybe that can change the franchise’s fortunes around?

The Knicks’ biggest issue is the absence of a definitive leader and superstar on the roster. And while Kristaps Porzingis could have been the next superstar for the club, they traded him away to the Mavericks this season.

What do you think? Will the Knicks see some success in the league in the near future or not?
