The Lakers were closer to sign Dennis Schroder than they were to anyone else. The move made them trade Danny Green and their 28th overall pick to the Oklahoma City Thunder. This came as a welcoming step for talent acquisition on the Lakers’ part, given the strengths of the German player.

With Anthony Davis also opting out of his player option, a lot happened for the LA-based franchise in the past day. However, AD personally sounded quite positive about the organization’s latest trade decision.

Anthony Davis backed the Lakers’ choice

AD sat for an interview with Yahoo sports, where he gave his first reaction on the news. He expressed, “With Schroder playing alongside LeBron… I think it’s a good pick up. He’s easily the Sixth Man of the Year, like any given year, played great alongside CP. I think that he is tough, he shot the ball well this year, he can get in the paint, he can find guys. So I think it was a good move, good pick up.”

The 27-YO Schroder is of the same age as AD and hence can be a great asset for the Lakers’ future team-building. Also, he is a phenomenal point guard, something the squad needs. Definitely, it would have been better if Chris Paul would’ve joined the Lakers, but his inclination towards the Phoenix Suns’ contract left the Lakers with no other options.

Will Dennis Schroder prove to be better than Jrue Holiday?

Jrue Holiday of the Pelicans is one of the best 2-way point guards in the NBA today. He has played six seasons alongside Anthony Davis and hence, they share a good camaraderie. The Lakers were also willing to package Kyle Kuzma for Jrue Holiday’s trade, but the Pelicans are not willing to let him go.

Jrue averaged 19.1 points at 45.4% from FG in the 2019-20 season, while Dennis had quite a competitive 18.9 point season at 46.9%. The three-point shooting of the German player has also improved over the years, and hence it can prove to be another plus for the Lakers, who’ve struggled from the downtown.
